PRE-SEASON training for all Wrexham RUFC senior and youth sides begins tonight at their Bryn Estyn Road headquarters (7pm).

A fitness coach has been appointed to concentrate initially on the improvement of fitness levels of the players.

Training will continue every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm thereafter. Chairman Barry Williams is keen to emphasise the sessions are open not only to current players.

The club’s quest to appoint a new head coach to develop the first team and ensure successful progression from youth to senior rugby continues. There have been several applicants for the vacant post and the new man is expected to be appointed by the beginning of August.

There have been changes to the management of Wrexham Youth, who went close to winning their league last season.

Coach Ian Morris has elected to take a year off and will be replaced during the pre-season period by John Roberts and Carl Turner, who were key members of Morris’ coaching team.

Having finished in the top three, Wrexham Youth have been included, along with Rhyl Youth and Mold Youth, in the new-style Webb Ellis Youth Cup that will embrace leading clubs throughout Wales.

Wrexham bosses have also approved the set-up of an Under 17s side under the guidance of Kevin Powell and Mike Jones, who have been the coaches of the club’s successful U16s.
