NORTHWICH Rowing Club enjoyed success on two fronts after the veterans put in a vintage display at Shrewsbury Regatta.
The Women’s Vet B Eight claimed victory on the River Severn over rivals Grosvenor over 1,000m by just a quarter of a length.
The crew members were: Carolyn MacRitchie, Melanie Wakefield, Carole Riddell, Clare Briegal, Kerry Briggs, Nicola Smith, Karen Airey, Nadia Ankrah and cox Jonty Moore.
Both the veterans and the juniors will be in action this weekend at the Chester Regatta on the Dee.
The juniors were out in force at the Merseyside Regatta on Saturday and came home with an impressive total of six wins.
The men’s novice coxed four of Peter Tolson, Jack Palmer, George Clarke, Tom Curwell and cox Sophie MatherŠtook honours in their event while in the junior categories the honours were shared evenly among the girls and boys squads.
The men’s J16 double scull of Shane Dickenson and Sam Coverley won their event, as did Nathan Jump, Tom Asteriades, Zack Trigg, Alex Murphy and cox Craig MilneŠin the junior 13 coxed quad race.
The winning girls crew was Becky Jones, Chloe Weston, Beth Wynne, Lizzy Bennet and cox Andy MorrisonŠin the women’s J15 coxed quad.
Beth and Chloe also went on to win the doubles event in the same age category.
The younger junior 13 double of Sam Over and Kate Mehan also won in their category.
Other performances of note include the intermediate men’s double of Alex Riddell and Max Andrews who faced a dead heat and re-row in their final but sadly just missed out on taking the title. Liam Adamson and Joseph Ronald also performed well in the junior 13 double.
