LIVE television coverage of the Blue Square Premier League is certainly different, with cameras in the dressing rooms prior to the game and on the touchline next to the dug-outs.
We’ve seen the Setanta crews at two of our four matches to date and it’s fair to say that most of the players in our dressing room do their best to ignore the unfamiliar faces and try to forget they are there as everyone prepares to go out on the pitch.
I’m not sure what the gaffer Brian Little makes of it though, especially when someone sticks a microphone into his face at various times while the game is going on.
Mind you, Setanta might think twice about interviewing any of our lads when they are substituted after what happened with Jefferson Louis in the game against Oxford United last Thursday.
The big man had just scored a goal to make the game safe for us at 2-0 and because he had worked so hard throughout he was almost out on his feet. So although it was the 90th minute, the gaffer replaced him with Simon Brown.
Before Jeff had even sat down the microphone was out and he was asked why he had come off.
“Because I’m f*****,” came the answer.
That’s a contender for the next ‘It’ll Be All Right On The Night’ show and poor old Jeff has taken a fair bit of stick from the lads for his blooper.
But to be fair it could have happened to any of us and he certainly did not mean to offend anyone by his reply, which was as honest as it was heartfelt.
The match with Oxford was hard-fought and entertaining to watch, but I thought we thoroughly deserved all three points which, added to the one we secured at Rushden, made it a decent week for us.
We know we can do better, though, and we’ll be hoping to make it two victories on the trot when we make the short trip to Altrincham today.
The gaffer is not planning to make any changes which means I’ll have to be content with a place on the bench again, but I can’t argue with his thinking after the last two results.
I’ve never played at Moss Lane before, but it’s something of a derby for us so I suspect we’ll have a fair number of our fans cheering us on and I’m sure we are capable of doing the business.
