VALE Royal Borough Council’s plastic recycling scheme is being expanded to cover all households in the borough.

The scheme, which was introduced to 80% of borough households in September 2006, will be rolled out across all households in March 2008.

The main areas to be added in this final phase are parts of Frodsham and Helsby along with Alvanley, Kingsley, Manley, Whitegate, Little Budworth, Allostock, Byley, Sproston and Antrobus.

It has been expanded due to demand from the public and the success of the council’s existing plastic scheme, which last year diverted more than 10 million plastic bottles from landfill – enough to make over 400,000 fleece jackets.

Cllr Lynn Riley, Lead Councillor for Environmental Management, said: “This scheme has been so well received and I am very happy that the rest of the borough will have the chance to make use of it.

“Recycling just one plastic bottle can conserve enough energy to light a 60W light bulb for up to six hours, which goes to show that a little bit of effort can go a long way.”
