Actress and former glamour model Abi Titmuss tells CHRIS SMITH how she wants readers of her new book to finally see the “real her”.

ABI Titmuss wowed the crowds at the Ellesmere Port launch of her new book.

The 32-year-old says she wants those reading The Secret Diaries of Abigail Titmuss to see the real person behind the headlines.

Speaking before her signing session at Borders Books at Cheshire Oaks on Monday, she said: “This is the first time I’ve been able to put across my experiences in my own words.

“I speak openly about things, like times I’ve got upset and about boyfriends. It’s been very cathartic.”

Abi writes about dating TV star John Leslie, and describes how, in 2002, he was arrested – and later acquitted – after allegations about his private life.

The Press started taking an interest in her, which led to a media career and modelling.

She said: “ Press attention is a double-edged sword.

“I enjoyed modelling and am amazed so much has happened, considering where I came from.

“I never expected to be in the public eye just because of John’s ordeal, but it happened. I had just stood by someone I loved.”

The former nurse explained how the national media love to build someone up, then knock them down: “I found it hard when they did that. I know I should develop a thick skin.”

She has found people’s perceptions changing. She said: “I’d always been very popular with men.

“But after I was on reality show Love Island in 2005, I found I was popular with families and children too.”

The Secret Diaries of Abigail Titmuss is available in paperback for £7.99.
