WINNINGTON Park “face four cup finals” says skipper Dave Hine as the founder members prepare for a huge effort to avoid relegation from the County League.
They needed to beat rivals Hale Barns on Saturday, but in the event rain made sure neither gained an advantage.
It also stopped Oakmere from moving nearer a spot in the County League when they were well placed against Alvanley.
But an early finish might have been of benefit to Northwich in the Cheshire Second Division. But they were beaten at Prestbury.

Toft 240-7dec Oulton Park 71-0 rsp
THE game was becoming interesting–- not least because of Guy Emmett (3-52), Jonny Kettle (40 no) and Danny Leech (30 no) – when rain intervened.
Ben Tomlinson (48no) and Steve Yates (20no) batted out the draw for Oulton 2nds, 113-4, after they slumped to 35-4 at home to Upton, who scored 223-9 (Simon Torlop 5-79 off 19 overs).
Winnington Park 201-6dec Hale Barns 89-2 rsp
IT was a must-win game for Park, but the rain was no respecter of their desperation.
The visitors also happened to be the team they have to catch before they even start to think of survival.
A swashbuckling 60 from Shaun O’Neill, a stubborn 42 from skipper Dave Hine and a useful 34 from Mike Caldecott demonstrated Park’s intent. But they could not carry out their threat when the rain turned heavy.
Winnington also batted first in the 2nds clash.
Ian Connor in his pinch-hitting role scored 44 out of the first 50 and his partner Alec Butcher stroked a majestic 45 in support. With captain Ian Johns chipping in 26, Winnington ended on 150ao.
Hale Barns were never up with the rate and held out at 122-8 (Jason Hayes 2-17 off 13 overs, Matt George 3-28).
MELLER BRAGGINS CHESHIRE LEAGUE
Oakmere 182-6dec Alvanley 40-2 rsp
THE game was evenly balanced but the weather scuppered second- placed Oakmere’s chances of moving further ahead of the pack.
Paul Hutchinson (30) and Paul Yearsley (25), a superb innings from Stewart Eaton (81no) and a valuable late contribution of 28 from Jim Ackerley accounted for the bulk of Oakmere’s runs.
Davenham 174-9dec Ashley 49-5 rsp
DAVENHAM were denied victory by the rain.
Prestbury 114-9 Northwich 96
A DISMAL batting performance saw Northwich lose for the second time this season to Prestbury.
The home side struggled to 76-8 (Stuart Hayes 3-21) but a late flourish was to prove important.
The Northwich innings immediately slumped and from 25-5 even a draw was impossible.
Northwich 2nds seemed to have the upper hand against Oakmere 2nds, who were 78-6.
Pete Jones (71no) led the recovery and Mike Cushion (36no) joined in.
Oakmere declared at 135-6 and then bowled Northwich out for a paltry 60 (Cushion 5-4).
Capenhurst 2nds conceded to Northwich 3rds.
Northwich 4ths 89ao lost to Bollington 3rds 90-0.
Weaverham 207-3 Winsford 129-4 rsp

Kiwi Gregg Airns hit a blistering 119no and found support from Rob McMillan (45) and Matt Bebbington (23).
But Winsford were going well when both sides were frustrated by the weather. Barry Crellin (40no) and Dave Tierney (27no) had hoisted Winsford from 64-4. Andy Cooper made 20.
Weaverham 2nds hit 182-7 (Dave Armstrong 50, Phil Harris, Chris Beckett both 30, Darren Falland 25), but Malpas did not bat.
