POLICE are advising parents and schoolchildren to be vigilant following fears of a paedophile on the prowl.

At around 3.30pm on Tuesday, July 8, a man approached an 11-year-old girl at Hartford Manor primary on Stones Manor Lane.

“After telling the girl he was there to pick her up from school the man invited her into his car, which is described as a dark coloured 4x4 vehicle,” said a police spokeswoman. “The girl refused and the man left the area.”

The man is described as a white male, between 20 and 30-years-old, around 5ft 7ins tall, of thin build with a shaved head. He has a “pale complexion”, spoke with a local accent and was wearing a green shirt and light blue jeans.

Insp Paul Loughlin, head of the Northwich Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We are very concerned about the behaviour of this individual and ask that parents and schoolchildren be aware of anyone acting suspiciously at or near to school areas, and to contact police to report any such activity.

“The safety of the community is our main priority and my officers are working alongside the school and Cheshire West and Chester Council regarding this matter and making every effort to trace the man responsible.

“We have increased patrols and anyone with concerns should contact us in the first instance. Additionally, should anyone have any information that they feel may assist Northwich CID, who are investigating this incident, please call 0845 4580000.”
