THE long arm of the law is being extended in friendship to the gay community in Cheshire Constabulary’s Western Area, which includes Ellesmere Port & Neston.
Sergeant Mandy Shaw has been given responsibility for setting up community action meetings specifically to discuss issues affecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities.
And, following a successful pilot event in Chester, the second meeting is set to be held at the Liverpool Arms in the city’s Northgate Street on April 8.
Sgt Shaw, the LGBT liaison officer, said: “We decided to hold the meetings in Chester as it provides a central point where the community could come together to talk to officers.
“But the meetings are not exclusively for Chester residents and we would welcome people from the entire Western Area.
“Obviously, if we then determine that demand is great enough we will look to hold future meetings elsewhere.”
She added: “The long-term aim is to build confidences and relations with all communities which should allow us, and our partner agencies, to deliver lasting solutions to any problems or issues that affect quality of life.”
