SHAUN PEJIC says Wrexham will go "back to basics" in order to stop leaking goals after losing five of their last six games.

Centre-half Pejic is targeting the Dragons' next match against MK Dons for his comeback from injury, and says it is the perfect opportunity for the team to keep a clean sheet for the first time since August 12.

That game was a hard-fought 0-0 draw at fancied Peterborough, three games into the seven-game un-beaten run which kicked off Wrexham's League Two campaign.

Since that run came to an end, however, the side have shipped 19 goals in six games, including losing 5-0 and 5-2 respectively to League Two newcomers Accrington Stanley and struggling Stockport and Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Hartlepool.

Pejic has missed the last five games with an Achilles strain, but will be back in training this week and expects to be fit for the visit of MK Dons to the Racecourse on October 14.

The 24-year-old says the international break will be the perfect opportunity for the team to put their rough patch behind them and claw their way back up the table, where they currently languish in 15th place.

"We've conceded a lot of goals recently, but we've still got the good team spirit we had at the start of the season," Pejic said yesterday.

"It's natural for everyone to be a bit down at the moment, but we've got to forget about it now and push on.

"Every team, even teams like Arsenal and Man United have bad runs, but you've just got to forget about it

because you can't do anything about it now. You've got to take each game as it comes and start scraping 1-0 wins if you have to."

After missing the opening games of the season through injury, Pejic partnered Steve Evans at the centre of defence following the transfer of Trinidad & Tobago international Dennis Lawrence to Swansea City.

Since straining his Achilles in the defeat to Accrington Stanley, however, Danny Williams has moved from midfield to defence as manager Denis Smith has juggled his squad.

Pejic said: "There's been abit of change around at the back, with Steve and Dennis playing at the start of the season and then me and Steve after Dennis left.

"Steve and Idid alright together except for the Accrington Stanley game, and the bad run is nothing to do with Danny going into defence because he played there when we played three at the back last season. "It's just getting used to playing next to the same person. Hopefully when Ido get fit we'll get a clean sheet and take it from there.

"I haven't got aspecific date for when I'm going to back but I'll be back in training sometime next week.

"Not having a game next week means there's no rush for me to get back to training, I can make sure I'm 100% fit for the next game and make sure I'm fully recovered.

"That's agood thing for me personally, but it's good for the team as well because it's agood time to forget about what's happened, enjoy training and get back to basics."

Meanwhile, Ryan Valentine, Chris Llewellyn and Mark Jones were travelling to Cardiff yesterday to join up with John Toshack's Wales squad.
