WINSFORD Flash Sailing Club have issued Mid Cheshire people with an open invitation.

The club will give anyone who wants to try sailing help and instruction before they decide whether to take up the sport seriously.

There is also a challenge for ambitious youngsters.

Diana Webber, press officer and regular sailor, said: “Britain was more successful in sailing than any other sport at the past two Olympics.

“In Andrew Dawson we have a member of Royal Yachting Association youth squad and, in the past, we have produced three Olympic trialists.

“The route to the top is there.”

The season opened on Sunday and there is already a younger element involved. The Cheshire Sea Scouts have joined en bloc.

Diana added: “Sailing is a sport open to all ages and abilities.

“We offer RYA approved training and you don’t even have to own a boat. We have several people can hire.”

Winsford run four club races on Sundays, and host and support regional and national events. There is less emphasis on formal sailing at the Wednesday evening sessions, which begin on April 23. They also have an active social programme.

“Anyone who wants to know what sailing is all about can come down and see us any Sunday or Wednesday,” added Diana.
