A CONMAN stole almost £400 from an elderly woman after posing as a Water Board official and tricking his way into her Oakmere home.

The thief struck at a house on Abbey Lane at 1pm on Thursday.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: “He left the premises on foot and is described as a white man aged in his early 20s.

“He was wearing jeans and a navy blue sweater and spoke with an Irish accent.

“Fortunately, the victim was unhurt during the incident, but she was left shaken and very upset.”

She added: “Should anyone experience a similar caller at their homes, they are advised to contact police.”
