TATTON MP George Osborne has been told by Tory leader David Cameron he will have to repay the cost of “a particularly expensive” taxi ride to Westminster from his Cheshire home.
Mr Osborne’s expenses claims, revealed by The Daily Telegraph last week, showed the taxpayer had picked up a £440.62 bill for the 200-mile journey in November 2005.
The shadow chancellor, whose constituency covers Barnton and Rudheath, told the Chronicle this week: “I usually travel to Westminster by train. On this one occasion I had a constituency function that evening and had to be in London very early the next morning.
“The engagement finished after the last train left so I hired a car.”
The Shadow Chancellor was also rebuked by the Commons authorities because his taxpayer-funded personal website was too “political”.
