MP Mike Hall and students from St Nicholas Catholic High School and The Grange School in Hartford have experienced the evil chill of visiting a Nazi concentration camp.

They recently returned from a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where hundreds of thousands were gassed and burned.

The Weaver Vale MP joined more than 200 sixth form students from the North West on a project which explores the universal lessons of the Holocaust.

The visit was an opportunity to see what happened and to pay respect to those who lost their lives.

The group was shown around the camp’s barracks and crematoria, and witnessed the registration documents of inmates, piles of hair, shoes, clothes and other items seized by the Nazis.

The course includes an orientation and follow-up seminar to prepare students for the visit and to reflect on their experiences.

On their return, students are required to give a presentation to their peers, based on their experience.
