DEFENSIVE problems plague Welshpool Town ahead of tonight’s Welsh Premier all Powys derby with Caersws at Maesydre.

The two sides need points for contrasting reasons, with Pool keen to stay among the leading pack while the Bluebirds continue their battle for league survival.

But, if tonight’s encounter survives the recent rain, then Lilywhites boss Tomi Morgan faces a real defensive headache with a number of key players missing.

Geraint Windsor is suspended along with Brett Jefferies while Ross Jefferies and John Keegan are injured, which will mean midfielders Dave Cunnah and Chris Venables could fill the void.

“Somewhere we have to find a centre half but we’ve got a few options,” said Morgan, who has approached Porthmadog full-back Kyle Jacobs about a possible switch.

“The game is extremely doubtful, but we’ve got to plan as if it’s going to go ahead and it’s a big three points on offer for both sides.”

Caersws will be keen to get back on track after last weekend’s 2-1 home reverse against The New Saints.

“Last week saw us sit back against TNS, but we’ll be a lot more positive against Welshpool and get back to playing like we have been,” said manager Mike Barton. “We’ll give it a real good go, and it’s going to be a totally different approach. There’s a lot of confidence in the camp.”

The Bluebirds are set to keep faith with an unchanged squad, while hopes of bringing former Aberystwyth Town and Penrhyncoch midfielder Gari Lewis to the club hang in the balance.

Aberystwyth, meanwhile, are set to lodge a complaint following an incident at half time in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Welshpool.
