SUPPORT for the integration of refugees and asylum seekers into the wider community will be the focus of a forum, announced by minister for social justice and regeneration Edwina Hart.

The Welsh Refugee Integration Forum is to be established by the Welsh Assembly to help refugees integrate in Wales.

Mrs Hart said: 'I'm personally committed to supporting the integration of refugees in Wales and to promoting positive community relations.'

The Forum will explore:

The possibility of developing a specific good practice pilot project; The opportunity to support the humanitarian needs of destitute asylum seekers; The opportunity to support qualified refugees and asylum seekers to secure employment in Wales.

Mrs Hart made the announcement at a reception to promote the four-day 'A Sense of Place' international event in Cardiff on November 24-27.

The event will highlight some issues of displacement and integration and provide examples of the work by refugees and asylum seekers themselves, along with some rich and culturally diverse work around displacement and integration, including two projects in Cardiff.
