SECRETARY of State Hazel Blears visited Cheshire Fire Service’s Winsford headquarters to launch a pioneering project to provide better services for elderly people.
Children from High Street Primary School joined the minister for communities and local government on Friday to kick off the scheme to reduce the risks facing vulnerable residents and ensure they are given easy access to all the support and advice they need.
The information-sharing initiative, the first of its kind in the country, is the culmination of five years of work by Cheshire Fire Service and its partners, which include the NHS and social services.
The project was developed after county-wide home safety assessments, when firefighters realised they were identifying many other needs, particularly among the elderly.
Ms Blears said: “This is an excellent example of the Fire and Rescue Service spotting an issue and doing something about it.”
