COMMUTERS experienced rush hour disruption on Thursday after a crash involving a van loaded with gas canisters closed the M6.
The carriageway was closed, causing tailbacks of up to 30 miles after the crash between junction 18 at Holmes Chapel and 19 at Knutsford.
Fire crews doused the canisters with water until they had cooled down to make sure they would not explode.
The van struck a safety barrier but the driver was not injured.
