Llanelli 3 Newi Cefn Druids 1
DRUIDS returned home empty-handed against the unbeaten title chasers but could take heart from their efforts at Stebonheath Park.
The visitors were always in the game until Gary Lloyd sealed the points for the full-timers with his second goal late on.
Manager Dixie McNeil said: “If we play like that this season then in general we are going to win more games than we lose.
“All in all, I’ve no compaints. Llanelli are the best side we’ve played this season but our lads worked hard.”
The visitors made a poor start as they fell behind in the sixth minute when failing to clear a corner and Rhys Griffiths fired home the loose ball.
Gary Lloyd then doubled the lead on 28 minutes when driving home a penalty after Craig Williams was caught by Mike Burns in the box.
However, the Ancients revived their cause when Lloyd tripped Mike Heverin in the box. The striker got up to convert a 34th-minute penalty.
They also had strong claims for a second spot-kick rejected after Heverin appeared to have been pushed following a corner.
Carl Lamb had a good chance to level, but there was no way back once Lloyd blasted in a free-kick from outside the box.
