The Mayor of Frodsham will don her running shoes for the Cheshire 10k to raise money for the town’s community centre.

Cllr Sara Wakefield, who became mayor in 2013, is hoping the sun will have its hat on when she pounds the roads of Antrobus on Sunday.

The trainee solicitor is competing in the road race to challenge herself and to raise essential funds for her Mayor’s Charity, Frodsham Community Centre.

She said: “Each year the mayor of Frodsham has an opportunity to choose a charity and then to organise events to raise money for them.

“My chosen charity for the year is Frodsham Community Centre as it plays a vital role for many community groups and organisations in Frodsham and is funded entirely by lettings, fundraising and donations.

“They have such a long wishlist of ‘would like to haves’, together with repairs that are badly needed to the building, any money that I raise I know will be put to good use by the committee.”

Sara added that she’s looking for donations of raffle and auction prizes, table decorations and printing for the sold-out Mayor’s Ball she’s organised on April 5.

While she’s looking forward to it and completed the Manchester 10k a couple of years ago, she admits ‘running doesn’t come naturally to me though so I’m aiming to finish it rather than win it’.
