MARKET traders will be relocated for 18 months during a town centre redevelopment.
The Brook Street car park in Neston will be shut from this summer as part of the Neston Market Town Initiative.
This was set-up with £1m funding from the Northwest Regional Development Agency to help regenerate the historic town and spruce up the fronts of its shops, cafes and other facilities.
Bob Hindhaugh, area traffic engineer, told the borough’s highways and transportation local joint committee: “We are proposing a Traffic Regulation Order for Brook Street.
“This is because of the necessity to relocate the town’s market from the Brook Street car park into the street itself every Friday for the duration of these works.
“The work is expected to commence in July 2008 and take a maximum of 18 months to complete.
“Following its completion, the market will relocate to the newly-created pedestrianised area in the town centre.”
Meanwhile, also discussed at the highways meeting was a number of proposed road closures across the borough in the near future, at dates to be set. They were:
Hanns Hall Road in Willaston will be closed for highway maintenance between its junctions with Quarry Road and Damhead Lane.
Bridge Street, Neston, will close between its junctions with Chester Road and Station Road mini roundabout for building renovations at Goodings Cookshop Ltd.
Morgan Est Utilities, on behalf of United Utilities, wants to close the following for major water main and service pipe renewal work: Berry Drive, Great Sutton, between its junctions with Glencoe Road and Mark Avenue; and Harewood Avenue, Little Sutton, between its junctions with Phillips Lane and Glencoe Road.
