A PAEDOPHILE found to have more than 9,000 “vile” images of child abuse on his computer has been locked up.
Daniel Francis Tunney, 26, was given a three-year term at Chester Crown Court for possessing, making and distributing indecent images.
Det Sgt Mark Fletcher, said some of the images found were “the most horrendous things we had ever seen”. “They included sexual and physical torture of children under the age of 18 months,” he added.
Recorder of Chester Judge Elgan Edwards added 12 months to the sentence under new legislation because Tunney, formerly of East Dudley Street, Winsford repeatedly refused to divulge secret passwords allowing access to key computer files.
Police had already found 2,133 images of child abuse on Tunney’s computer when they discovered a series of password-encrypted files they couldn’t access.
Once cracked they revealed a further 6,980 photo and video files – containing “shocking scenes of the sexual and physical torture of children”.
DS Fletcher said: “The intelligence indicated he had been distributing images around the world and we were given a log of a chatroom conversation where he discussed child abuse and the acquisition of child abuse images with someone from outside the UK. We searched his house when we discovered some images and the password protected files.”
