A NORTHWICH man triggered a full-scale emergency when he climbed 20 feet up a tree on Monday evening, and threatened to throw himself off.

Police, firefighters and paramedics converged on the woodland at the rear of Woodside Terrace, Leftwich, after his mum reported him missing at 8.45pm and said she was afraid he could harm himself.

His description was circulated to police patrols and shortly afterwards he was spotted going into the woods.

A police spokesman said: “When officers found him he was 20 feet up the tree, refusing to come down, and with a cable wrapped round his wrist.

“They kept on talking to him and at 11.10pm he came down and was taken to Leighton Hospital for a mental health assessment.”
