ROTARIANS are cooking up support for youngsters in Northwich.
The Rotary Club of Northwich is backing Year 9 pupils who are taking part in the national Young Chef competition.
Leftwich County High School teachers Janet Barber and Rebecca Macklin have already organised the Northwich heat of the annual cookathon.
Held in the food technology department, each contestant had to prepare a two-course meal for two, costing no more than £6, in less than 90 minutes.
The six contestants were judged on planning, preparation, appearance and texture of the meal and hygiene, safety, and cleanliness skills displayed.
The judges were Mark Huntley, manager of Nunsmere Hall Hotel, head chef Craig Malone and Rotarian Frank Smith, retired catering consultant.
Winner was Hollie Gillespie with a prawn risotto followed by a chocolate mousse. In second place was Olivia Knight with Lauren Grecian third.
Roberts Bakery sponsored the event, Sainsburys, Tesco, Somerfield and Marks & Spencer provided store vouchers to buy the ingredients; and Nunsmere Hall Hotel donated gift tokens for the winners.
This was the first of four heats being held by Northwich secondary schools.
