Guest speaker Judy Popley then took members on a tour of stately homes and their estate villages. These included Castle Howard, built in a dramatic setting and used as a location for Brideshead Revisited.
The competition for a tray was won by Judy Beckett, with Vera Hardman second and Olga Thornton third.
The next meeting is the AGM in the village hall on Monday, November 10, at 7.30pm.
Davenham Methodist Church Ladies Group opened with prayers led by president Barbara Sandbach.
Names were taken for the Christmas dinner which this year is at The Woodpecker on Wednesday, December 3, at 7pm.
The speaker for the evening was Dr Claire Mather-Dodd – a chiro-practitioner of Middlewich Road, Rudheath.
The next meeting is a coffee evening on Wednesday, November 5. All are welcome.
Acton Bridge WI president Sue Williams and member Irene Barber enjoyed a talk by TV vet Steve Leonard at the autumn WI meeting in Winsford.
Graphology and the Alexander Technique were two courses attended at Denman College in Oxfordshire by members Jean Heaton and Irene Barber.
Everyone was reminded about the forthcoming soup and sandwich lunch, the theatre trip to see Calendar Girls at the Lowry, and the group meeting at Frodsham.
The next walk is on Friday, October 31, meeting at the Parish Rooms at 10am.
Guest speaker Alex Major from Age Concern then told members about the varied activities she’s organised for the over 50s.
From computer courses for beginners and foreign languages to horse-riding, there is the possibility to learn whatever is requested provided enough people are interested. She was thanked by Margaret Ashworth.
The next meeting is the AGM on Tuesday, November 11. Speaker Bob McGregor will give a talk about the magic of toys.
