DARRAN KEMPSON has become the latest of the Brian Little signings to leave Wrexham after agreeing terms to cancel the remaining 12 months of his Racecourse contract.

The 24-year-old central defender has barely figured for the Dragons since Little was replaced by Dean Saunders midway through last season and he spent a couple of months on loan at Blue Square Premier rivals Forest Green Rovers.

Kempson, who joined Wrexham from Shrewsbury Town 12 months ago, is believed to have held talks with a number of League Two clubs and said he would be leaving with no hard feelings.

He said: “I’ve enjoyed my time at Wrexham. It’s a great club and I’ve made some good friends here.

“Unfortunately things don’t always work out as you would like in football, but I understand that.

“I’m sorry to be leaving but I’ll be getting the chance of regular football and as a player that’s all you want.”

Meanwhile, last season’s captain Ashley Westwood has signed a new one-year deal that will see him in competition with Manni Assoumani and Mike Williams for a regular first team spot this season.

The 32-year-old former Manchester United trainee, who played alongside Saunders at Bradford City, said he was hoping for a more successful season this time round.

“The boss knows what he needs to make sure we are up there throughout the year and promotion is our aim – it’s the only thing I’m focused on,” the centre back said.
