BEANS tests, healthy food tasting and the chance to win a free two-month membership at a health club formed part of the launch of a hospital initiative.

The Nourish campaign, created by Heart of Mersey, aims to educate NHS staff around the region on how to improve their diet.

It kicked off at the Countess of Chester Hospital with a staff day as the catering team created a number of events to promote healthy eating.

Hospital chief executive Peter Herring was even persuaded to take the beans test – low salt versus full salt - while other staff members entered a raffle for a two-month free membership at Total Fitness in Chester.

Also as part of the initiative, staff at the trust will be offered improved healthy food options and meal deals.

A hospital spokesman said: “We recognise how vital it is that our staff are making healthy food choices, and we hope this initiative will help them to do that.”
