BARNTON lost their grip on their Cheshire League Division One status after they lost their fifth consecutive match on Saturday.
The 4-1 defeat at fourth-placed Styal means that it is now mathematically impossible for the Townfield Lane side to avoid the drop into Division Two.
With just three games left of the season to play, bottom-of-the-table Barnton lie 10 points behind nearest rivals Knutsford.
They travel to Greenalls Padgate St Oswald’s tonight (6.30pm).
Barnton will join Northwich neighbours Lostock Gralam in Division Two next season.
The Grey Lambs have also had an unhappy Easter after two defeats have stalled their promotion drive.
A 2-0 home defeat to Grappenhall last week was followed up by another 2-0 loss away at league leaders and now title favourites Golborne Sports.
The defeats put an end to a nine-game winning streak and leaves the Manchester Road club 10 points off the top in sixth place. Lostock visited Grappenhall last night.
