FIREFIGHTERS battled to free two drivers who were trapped in their cars after a serious car crash.

At 6.30pm on Friday  emergency services were called to Gordon’s Lane, Backford, after a Corsa and Volkswagon Golf collided.

Firefighters from Ellesmere Port Fire and Rescue Service battled to free the drivers of the vehicles, both from Ellesmere Port, for more than an hour, cutting through the roof of the Vauxhall to free the female driver. 

Both drivers were taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital, where the male driver was treated for pelvic injuries and the female for neck and back injuries.

Police closed the road for almost two hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Police are appealing for anyone witnesses to the collision to call Chester Traffic Unit on 0845 458 0000 quoting incident number 786.
