AN ELLESMERE Port glass manufacturing firm was hit by a big fire on Monday afternoon.

Fire crews from Ellesmere Port fire station were sent to tackle the blaze in Quinn Glass, near Ash Road, Elton, and arrived at the scene at 2.50pm.

The blaze resulted in the sub-station at the plant being shut down for several hours.

A spokesman for Ellesmere Port fire station said there was quite a bit of smoke as a result of the fire, but otherwise the damage was not too bad.

Fire crews left the scene at 8.30pm, after ensuring the building was made safe.
