A BUSINESSMAN was arrested for having sex on the lawn of Windsor Castle in front of hundreds of passers-by.
Phil Carden, 30, of Ellesmere Port, was caught with his trousers down when he engaged in the act with internet expert Joy Taylor next to the castle’s Garter Tower following an afternoon of alleged heavy drinking on Thursday.
Mr Carden, who until a few days before the incident was engaged to 29-year-old nurse Lucy Meredith, of Great Sutton, was even filmed by a group of Japanese tourists – while other onlookers shielded their children from the bizarre spectacle.
The Queen was in residence at the time. A royal spokesman confirmed: “Her private apartments are at the other end so she would have been blissfully unaware of it.”
According to witnesses, the couple finally stopped when Royal Protection Squad officers arrived on the scene.
One witness, Mark Robinson, 44, said: “The officers told them to stop and the sight of the uniforms seemed to snap them out of it.
“They were unsteady on their feet and the guy pulled his trousers up and helped the girl put hers back on.
“The Japanese tourists were comparing their videos.”
Mr Carden is a £50,000-a-year operations director for Warrington recruitment firm Antel.
His employers have confirmed that he won’t be facing dismissal following the incident.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “We can confirm two people were arrested for outraging public decency and were cautioned for the said offence.”
A friend of Miss Meredith has been quoted in a number of national newspapers saying that the couple’s split had come out of the blue following a six-year romance.
