AN ELLESMERE Port firm is offering advice and guidance to businesses in the borough following the outbreak of swine flu.

Arco, a leading supplier of safety and workwear products, says companies can take the following steps to minimise the risk of spreading the disease in the workplace:

Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible.

Dispose of dirty tissues promptly and carefully.

Maintain good, basic hygiene. For example wash hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to face, or to other people.

Clean hard surfaces, such as door handles, frequently using a normal cleaning product.

Stay away from work if you suffer flu-like symptoms and seek medical advice. To minimise the risk of spreading disease, patients are asked not to go to their doctor’s surgeries but instead stay at home and call their healthcare provider for advice.

Arco branch manager Gary Cartwright said: “The best advice we can give local businesses at the moment is to ensure that general infection control practices and good respiratory and hand hygiene is maintained, as this will help to reduce transmission of all viruses, including the human swine influenza.”

The branch stocks hygiene and respiratory protective items such as disposable gloves, coveralls and disinfectants.
