AN ELLESMERE Port entrepreneur is working her chiropractic business into shape following her first six months of trading.
Gillian Smith, 32, is hoping to expand her client base in Ellesmere Port and Chester after investing more than £35,000 in launching The Port Chiropractic in May.
She set up the Stanney Oaks-based firm after leaving her job as a scientist in the environmental sector.
Gillian specialises in the McTimoney method, which is a gentle and precise whole body approach to chiropractic care.
She said: “I offer whole body treatments for a range of muscle and joint problems.
“I use joint manipulation techniques to make adjustments to the alignment of the bones of the body which can help to improve nervous system function, ease back, neck and joint pain and improve posture.
“My services are tailor-made to each individual client and may include chiropractic adjustments and joint mobilisation, plus self-help exercise and lifestyle advice to help improve overall health and wellbeing.”
“I really love what I do. A lot of people are thinking of becoming self- employed as a result of the recession and I can’t recommend it enough. Although it is very hard work the rewards are tremendous and you can’t beat being your own boss.”
Gillian says the catalyst for launching the firm was attending a business start-up advice seminar where she met Pam Dawson, a business adviser from business support agency Blue Orchid. Blue Orchid offers free business advice to anyone thinking of setting up a firm in Ellesmere Port and Cheshire.
“I’ve used a chiropractor myself after suffering a back injury when I was 17 so I know it can make a huge difference to people in pain and have a long-standing interest in how it works,” added Gillian.
