A WOMAN has received a community order for theft.
Sarah Jane Gilbert, of Westminster Road, Ellesmere Port, had admitted theft and assault at an earlier date.
The court heard Gilbert left Pound Land, Marina Drive, Ellesmere Port, on August 8, with several bags of stolen goods, worth £69.
Sales assistant David Hickman was alerted to the goods being stolen and Gilbert dropped the bags and ran off across the car park.
Mr Hickman gave chase, caught her and she said: “I’ve given the goods back, let me go.”
Gilbert tried to bite Mr Hickman before getting out a bottle of methadone and starting to drink it.
She also kicked him.
Defending, Stephen Coop said drugs were the root of Gilbert’s problems.
He said Gilbert was attending a community drug service and was keen to co-operate.
Mr Coop said the kick to Mr Hickman’s shin took place while Gilbert was sitting down.
Magistrates made Gilbert the subject of a one-year community order.
They ordered her to undertake a six-month drug rehabilitation programme, pay £20 compensation and costs of £95.
