THREE high-flying pupils of Rudheath High School have been honoured for their “outstanding” achievements at a prize night this week.

GCSE Drama students Mel Hughes, Amy Poole and Stacey Skellington were among a handful in the country to get 100% in all modules in the summer.

“Out of a total of 60,000 students nationally, only 10 in the country managed to do this,” said headteacher Mike Hayhurst. “What’s more, the other seven attended seven different schools!”

Vale Royal mayor Cllr Malcolm Gaskill attended the ceremony on Thursday night and Rudheath High old boy Cllr George Mainwaring also appeared as guest speaker.

Mr Hayhurst paid tribute to former deputy headteacher Rosemary Loftus, who left at the start of September to join an arts school in Liverpool, for her part in ensuring the school has been designated as a specialist arts college for at least three more years.

“After 23 years of service Rosemary, an outstanding practitioner and leader of the arts, has left her own legacy here,” he said.

Rudheath High, this year celebrating its 70th anniversary, obtained its best set of exam results yet in the summer.

Mr Hayhurst added: “Congratulations to all our students and also to the teachers and support staff who worked so diligently to obtain such a good set of results this year.

“I know that Neil Tomlinson, the Year 11 learning co-ordinator, is, quite justifiably, very proud of the achievements of his year group.”
