WREXHAM have had Saturday’s home clash with Histon postponed because of a trio of international call-ups.
With Steve Evans added to John Toshack’s squad and brothers Marc Williams and Mike Williams have been included in Brian Flynn’s U21 party for the two play-offs against England, the Dragons asked the Blue Square Premier to reschedule the game. Neil Taylor and Levi Mackin also on the standby list.
Under Football League rules the fixture would automatically be abandoned, but no such arrangement exists in the Blue Square Premier.
However, Wrexham – who will also be without their manager Dean Saunders for the Racecourse clash – made a special appeal to the administrators.
Racecourse secretary Geraint Parry revealed the club had pre-warned the Blue Square Premier board that this issue could arise before the season’s fixtures were announced.
“They don’t have a rule for this as it is something which doesn’t come up on a regular basis.
“We could end up causing the league a few problems this season (because of Wrexham’s international contingent).
“We spoke to the league during the summer when the fixtures came out just to warn them, because we knew there was no rule to govern it.”
Wrexham will be contacting Histon over the next few days to rearrange the fixture.
