WREXHAM County Borough Council is encouraging residents to get walking their pet dogs more to improve health and fitness.
It says it can lower blood pressure, reduce stress, burn off calories, help you meet new friends and improve your immune system and self-esteem.
Studies have also shown that being taken for a walk improves dogs mentally as well as physically.
Helen Cook, senior environmental health officer, said: “It is essential that your dog is given two walks of at least half-an-hour each day. This gives him the opportunity to sniff around and meet other dogs – all things that use his brain and help keep him happy and contented.
“While out with your dog please remember to pick up after him and be aware of him at all times, so that the walk is a pleasurable one for everyone.”
