OAKMERE are up and running in the Cheshire County League on Saturday after a deserved victory over Mobberley with just three balls on the match remaining.
Hosts Mobberley posted a decent score of 191-6 but Oakmere’s line-up stood up well and grabbed the dramatic victory at 192-6. Paul Guilford led the way with 46, backed up by Rob Lyons (39) and Peter Yearsley (36).
Skipper Ian Eaton said: “It was a difficult game but it’s great to get that first win under out belts. The most pleasing thing for me is that we have improved week on week.
“The first weekend, we got battered and that could massively demoralise a team but we have bounced back.
“That was the strongest team we have had out all season so if we can keep the boys together and concentrate on targeting certain games where can pick up points then we will be ok.
“Middlewich a flying at the moment so it will be another tough game for us this weekend.”
On Saturday, Oakmere host Middlewich at Overdale Lane (1pm).
A magnificent innings of 161 from former Weaverham High pupil Danny Leech was the highlight on an otherwise frustrating day for third-placed Oulton Park.
Leech’s knock was well supported by Rick Moore (58) as the hosts posted an imposing 303-4 at Little Budworth. But in reply Oxton fought hard and held out on 166-6 in a match that was reduced in overs due to the weather.
This Saturday, Park visit league leaders Bowdon (12.30pm).
