CONSTRUCTION company Morgan Ashurst has been awarded a £71.4m contract from aircraft manufacturer Airbus to build a high tech wing assembly facility in Broughton, Flintshire.
Most of the space in the 52,300 sq m Airbus North Factory will be used to assemble carbon fibre wings, seen as pivotal in the development of the UK aviation industry. The new building will also accommodate workshops, welfare facilities, offices and reception areas.
Morgan Ashurst expects that the construction project will create jobs for at least 400 people through the company and its 15 supply chain partners.
Danny Murray, Morgan Ashurst director for the North West, said: “Our primary objective will be to provide Airbus with a sustainable, high-performance building that is not only energy efficient but capable of meeting the company’s current and future production needs.”
Morgan Ashurst will work with its sister company, design and engineering specialist Morgan Professional Services (MPS), based in Birchwood, Warrington, to deliver the scheme.
The project is due to be completed in 2010.
