A VALE Royal AC team is aiming to turn silver into gold next year.
The Under 15s girls team of Megan Huxley, Charlotte Mills, Claire Perry and Lucy Whittick were runners up at the North of England Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Three of the girls, including eighth placed Huxley, will be eligible again in 2009.
Under 13s Hannah Bishop, Louise Towers, Kate Moulds and Jade Evans were sixth.
“It was a brilliant performance,” said coach Shaun McGrath.
The boys of the same age group Lewis Healey, Mike Vennard, Andrew Zimmer, Jack Quinn and Josh Boyce were eighth – the best ever position for that age group by a Vale Royal team.
Rebecca Craigie finished sixth in the U17s and along with Kathy Stringer (12th) will be in the same age group next year.
The team, including Emily Furber, Kate Howard and Gemma Mayled, was fourth.
Andy Clews was 19th in the boys’ event and Vale Royal under 20s James Griffiths, Chris Perry, Zach Cross and Peter Cox were fifth.
Karen Ellison (41st) and Becky Ellis (54th) ran in a field of 290 senior finishers and Gavin Tomlinson was 50th out of 665 men.
