AS CHRISTMAS approaches, Nightingale House Hospice is launching its annual Light up a Life Appeal.

It celebrates the life and memory of loved ones in the community regardless of any prior connection with the hospice.

The charity is inviting people from all faiths and beliefs to remember a loved one or to honour a friend, relative or colleague by making a donation to sponsor a light on its Christmas trees in the hospice grounds.

A service of remembrance will be held in the grounds on Friday, December 5, to celebrate the memories of loved ones. A number of services will also be held in the hospice catchment area.

Lights lit in memory will shine until Twelfth Night.

A special book of honour with the names of all those remembered can be viewed at each service.

Caroline Siddall, income generation manager at the hospice, said: “Light up a Life is a celebration which anyone can join in with while helping raise funds for the hospice. Last year more than 1,500 people were remembered through Light up a Life and we want to keep those memories alive this year.

“Any donation is welcome and the proceeds will go towards our specialist palliative care services.”
