CHESHIRE’S Chief Constable Peter Fahy has been appointed head of Greater Manchester Police following the death of its former boss, Mike Todd.

Mr Fahy’s deputy, Graeme Gerrard, will now fill the vacancy until a permanent replacement is chosen later in the year.

Peter Nurse, chairman of Cheshire Police Authority, paid tribute Mr Fahy, 45, and wished him well in his new post.

He said: “During his time as Chief Constable in Cheshire, Peter Fahy has been very successful in developing the constabulary and reducing crime levels, all of which has made a real difference to the people of Cheshire, police officers and staff.”
