FIREFIGHTERS rushed to the M56 after a car burst into flames on the motorway.

The saloon car caught fire on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 14, at Hapsford, and Junction 12, at Clifton, at 12.14pm on Monday.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue said two appliances from Ellesmere Port rushed to the scene and crews wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to put out the flames after finishing the car well alight.
