CAERNARFON Town will introduce several newcomers at The Oval tonight when they stage a Loosemores’ Cup Group One derby against Porthmadog.
As many as five changes could be made by manager Steve O’Shaughnessy, as he bids to freshen up and his large squad.
The Canaries’ boss said: “Some of these players have not been involved so far in our first three games and, as well as seeing what they have to offer, we are hoping they will provide competition.”
Likely inclusions in the starting line-up will be midfielder Leyton Maxwell, who has been restricted to the substitutes bench, and forward Bobby Jones.
Others in contention will be Jones’ brother Mike, a full-back, Dave O’Japheth from Marine and Kevin McGarry from Tranmere Roberts.
Porthmadog, anxious to break their duck after defeats in all four outings to date – including a 3-1 home league setback to Caernarfon nine days ago – also plan changes.
Winger Carl Jones will return after a one-match ban and new goalkeeper Joe Sagar, who has played for Glasgow Rangers reserves, will also appear. But Dylan Jones and Richard Smart are unavailable.
Player-manager Clayton Blackmore said: “We have been punished in our opening matches because of mistakes caused by naivety by some players. But we are determined to turn things around in this derby, which is the perfect opportunity.”
