COLWYN Bay boss Gary Finley strongly believes his team still has a great chance of making the promotion play-offs going into today’s home clash with Stocksbridge Park Steels (3pm).

Although the Seagulls are currently only 12th in Division One South they have several games in hand on most teams above them due to their exhaustive cup commitments.

“Even if we win three-quarters of our games in hand we’ll be right up there,” said Finley.

“It’s just a case of going on a bit of a run now. We’ve been doing ok in the league – we beat Warrington (7-1) and Brigg Town, drew with Cammell Laird and lost to Carlton in a match we should have won comfortably, but we just need to be a bit more consistent.”

Sheffield outfit Stocksbridge are 10th in the table, four points ahead of the Bay but having played three games more.

“We drew at their place 1-1 at the start of the season,” said Finley. “They are a well-organised side, but we’re at home and certainly capable of beating them.”

Bay could be missing three key players. New signing James Glendinning, whose transfer from Caernarfon Town was completed only hours before last weekend’s 1-0 President’s Cup defeat at Ossett Albion, picked up an injury in that game and is suspended today for an accumulation of Welsh Premier bookings.

Midfielder Adam Wade is also a doubt after picking up an injury at Ossett, and John Lawless is still sidelined with a hamstring strain.

Finley added: “I am anxious to get a settled back four playing together each week.

“But we keep having players unavailable, injured or suspended and we have been leaking goals lately with all the chopping and changing we’re having to do.”
