VALE Royal Borough Council has been awarded Green Hero status at a ceremony in plush St James’s Palace, London.

The council was nominated for the national award, which celebrates environmental achievements, by the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.

BTCV receives generous funding from the council for its various activities in the borough including work on maintaining and developing countryside sites.

Mark Stocks, lead councillor for Environmental Policy, said: “With one of our four key corporate priorities being sustainable, we are keen to demonstrate our commitment and play our part in protecting the environment.

“This award is a great accolade and recognises all the hard work of those involved.”

After winning the regional award in the Partnership category, Vale Royal was then declared the national ‘hero’.
