A PLANNING blueprint for Wrexham town centre is being recommended for approval.
The Wrexham Town Centre Conservation Area Character Assessment and Management Plan will go before a council executive board meeting on Tuesday next week.
It will be the first enhancement plan in 23 years and will look at the impact of existing buildings and include design guidance for future developments.
At a council briefing , planning policy manager Clive Nicholas said the document will help to identify the special character of the conservation area.
Leader of Wrexham Council Cllr Aled Roberts acknowledged the modern development happening in the town centre.
However, he emphasised the historic architectural roots as well.
Cllr Roberts said: “We have a duty to manage the historic areas. To be one of the top 80 shopping centres in the UK we cannot be just dependent on the large retailers to retain its vibrancy.
“We also have to have a small independent retail centre and this strategy will help us to achieve that.”
