PEOPLE are being urged not to divulge any personal financial details over the phone following a spate of bogus calls.
The warning follows calls to several residents from individuals claiming to be from the borough council’s finance department.
The bogus callers are demanding bank account details from residents on the pretext that Council Tax payments can be claimed or refunded.
A spokeswoman said the council wants to make residents aware that it would never request this sort of personal information over the phone.
“The public is asked to be extra vigilant and not give any personal or bank details over the phone.
“If you believe that you have received a potentially fraudulent call please let us know by calling Vale Royal Borough Council’s Audit and Performance Department on 01606 867908.”
