THIEVES have entered two homes in St John’s Park, Whitchurch, as the occupants were sleeping.
The first incident was on Sunday, when thieves made off with jewellery as an elderly lady slept, and a thief struck in the early hours of Tuesday and was apprehended but made off with a wallet.
In the first incident an offender or offenders entered an apartment at the sheltered accommodation off St John’s Street at about 3am on Sunday and carried out a search.
They entered the victim’s bedroom and searched through drawers, stealing jewellery while she was asleep.
A Samsung flat-screen television, a handbag and a money box containing loose change were also stolen.
The 80-year-old occupant has been left shaken and distressed.
Early on Tuesday an elderly couple woke to find an intruder in their apartment.
The offender was discovered by the householder hiding behind a door just after 1.15am.
He challenged the intruder, there was a verbal altercation and the offender grabbed the victim’s arms, before being pushed away. The man then shut him in the room and shouted to his wife to call the police.
Officers arrived but the offender had made off through a window and ran off toward St John’s Street.
