TWO prominent politicians from Bangladesh visited the town.
They were Lieutenant Colonel Syed Ali Ahmed, who is now retired but is a prospective candidate in Bangladesh’s forthcoming parliamentary election, and Alhaj M A Malek Khan, who was a freedom fighter in his country’s 1971 liberation war and is now vice-president of Bangladesh National Freedom Fighter Party.
Also visiting was Syed Ansar Miah, who is chairman of Wirral Bangladesh Association, M I Azmi Khan and S A Khan.
The visit was arranged by former Labour borough councillor Abdul Jilani.
Deputy borough mayor Councillor Tony Sherlock welcomed the visitors into the council chamber, where views were exchanged on the environment, education, culture and politics.
After the meeting Cllr Sherlock accompanied the visitors on a trip to the Blue Planet Aquarium.
Lt Col Ahmed invited him to visit Bangladesh.
