NORTHWICH band The Weavils drew a crowd outside town centre shops when they collected for Cancer Research UK.

While performing their distinctive, foot-tapping mix of world music, jazz and blues, they were supporting the charity’s new It’s a Girl Thing campaign which aims to galvanise the support of women across the region to help beat breast cancer.

Band member Steve Barr said: “We wanted to support the cause because we all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer.

“Backing the campaign is a great way to have fun and helping a really important cause. Wearing a pink beret in public for such a good cause was no problem for me, although my sons were horrified!”

Shoppers kindly donated a total of £186.95. Steve is an employee of Barclays and money raised will be matched pound for pound by the bank.
